Fed: Victoria likely site for new $500 million Holden plant
Car maker Holden is reportedly likely to set up a $500 million engine plant in Victoria.
The Age newspaper is quoting Holden sources as saying the company is likely to establish
the plant alongside existing operations in Port Melbourne.
The sources say Holden prefers the site over other possible General Motors options
in South Australia, Germany and the United States.
However, the company has played down reports that it has almost finalised the decision,
with its public affairs director JOHN MORRISON saying NO decision has been made.
Mr MORRISON says there is NO decision on whether the plant will be in Australia, and
if so, where in Australia.
And Mr MORRISON refuses to comment on claims the company is trying to spark a bidding
war between South Australia and Victoria.
